Digital label printing

Digital printing is the best solution when you need short or medium runs, several versions of one design, market tests or variable data. With no plates or cylinders to amortise, the start-up cost falls: you produce exactly the labels you need, when you need them, and you get product onto the shelf in shorter lead times.

At BIOLID we take this technology where it pays off most: limited editions, launches, seasonal campaigns and catalogues with many references. Its high-definition quality makes it ideal for premium products, and the flexibility of the process allows numbering, batch control and piece-by-piece personalisation within a single reel.

It is also the basis of our commitment to sustainability and innovation: less start-up waste, print on demand that avoids overstock, and the chance to update designs more often without an economic penalty. The versatility of digital printing turns ideas into real product with a clear commitment on lead time and consistency.

If you are unsure which technique to use, we work it out with you: we look at run length, number of versions, substrate and finish, and we tell you honestly when digital is the best option and when it is worth combining it with offset or flexography for specific finishes.

  • No plate or cylinder cost: profitable from the first unit in short and medium runs.
  • Variable data, sequential numbering and limited series in a single run.
  • Versions, languages and variants of one design without stopping the press.
  • Fast time-to-market for launches, market tests and campaigns.
  • High definition and stable colour for premium and gourmet products.
  • Print on demand: less overstock, less waste and less scrap.

Short and medium runs

Digital's home ground: orders where making plates doesn't pay off. Produce just what you need, repeat when you need it and keep stock under control.

Variable data

Numbering, codes, batches, dates and different names on every label within the same reel. Key for traceability, promotions and numbered series.

Versions and personalisation

Several designs, languages or flavours of one product with no changeover cost. Ideal for wide catalogues and special editions.

Proofs and prototypes

We validate a design on the real product before committing to a long run, reducing launch risk.

Briefing and substrate

We define run length, number of versions, variable data, substrate and finish to confirm digital is the best route.

Prepress and proof

We prepare the file and, if you need it, a physical proof to validate colour and legibility before printing.

Print on demand

We produce with piece-by-piece colour control, handling numbering and variable data in the same pass.

Finishing and delivery

Laminates, die-cutting and special finishes; supplied on reels or sheets with the agreed traceability and deadlines met.

A wide range of papers and films compatible with digital ink: coated, laid, metallised, transparent and recyclable and FSC® substrates. We advise on the material according to the pack, the conditions of use and the brand message.
Which run lengths is digital printing right for?

Short and medium runs, limited editions, launches and jobs with several versions or variable data. With no plate cost, it pays off even in small quantities.

Does it allow numbering or variable data?

Yes, it is one of its great strengths: sequential numbering, batches, dates, codes and piece-by-piece personalisation within the same reel, without stopping the press.

Is the quality comparable to offset?

For most applications, yes: we work in high definition with stable colour. For very specific finishes (certain opaque inks or effects) we look at combining it with offset or screen printing.

Can I print several versions in the same order?

Yes. You can include different designs, languages or product variants in a single run with no plate changeover cost.

How long does a digital order take?

Lead times are short because there are no plates to make. We confirm the date in the quotation according to substrate, finish and plant workload.

Is it a more sustainable option?

Print on demand cuts overstock and start-up waste, and we work with recyclable and FSC® substrates. The most sustainable label is the one produced in exactly the right quantity.
